Our Work in the Park
BIG Volunteer Projects
APA volunteers are responsible for bringing so many major improvements to the park! Planting and cultivating the butterfly garden. Restoring the bocce court to greatness. Gathering huge amounts of leaves for compost every year. Installing Little Free Libraries. Ending soil erosion at the 21st Street corner entrance with a newly planted area. You name it, we’ve made it happen.
And all the Little ThINGS
Astoria Park is a special place with hundreds (and often thousands) of daily users. It takes a lot of regular TLC. We support the efforts of the dedicated NYC Parks Department staff by tending to so many of the “little things” that make a big impact. We paint benches, pull weeds, edge walkways, pick up litter, paint over graffiti, plant bulbs, and clean the shoreline.
Plus Community Events
Movie Nights on the Great Lawn, Shore Fest Community Festivals, Classic Car Shows, Musical Walking Tour, and so much more. To us, the park is nothing without the community, so we focus on bringing free public programming to our neighborhood’s backyard.
